Meet Victoria Barlow, the energetic new Sales and Marketing Director bringing fresh ideas and initiatives to Walker Place! We sat down with Victoria to learn more about her role and her vision for the Minneapolis senior living community.
Q: Tell Us About Your Background and What Attracted You to Walker Place
A: I have over 25 years of experience in commercial real estate and property management in the Twin Cities area. I'm very familiar with the East Harriet neighborhood as I was born and raised in Minneapolis, attended the University of Minnesota, and my three kids attended high school just blocks from Walker Place.
I was drawn to the opportunity to leverage my local expertise to better engage residents, many of whom are lifelong citizens of Minneapolis. I also loved the chance to lead such a robust senior living community as it enters an exciting phase of renovations and new programs!
Q: How Does Your Deep Knowledge of the Surrounding Community Impact Your Approach?
A: Having an intimate understanding of the neighborhood has been invaluable. I'm able to make personalized recommendations for life enrichment activities based on my favorite local spots. For example, I've taken residents to my favorite fishing hole and connected plant enthusiasts with beautiful gardens across the Twin Cities.
I've also built trust as someone familiar with the residents' beloved community. This motivates them to serve as brand ambassadors who happily engage in Walker Place activities and share feedback to enhance the experience.
Q: What Are Some of the New Initiatives You Are Helping Lead at Walker Place?
A: I'm thrilled to help implement several new programs that inject energy and evolution into life at Walker Place. A few examples are launching Walker Talks, an educational speaker series that establishes our community as a knowledge leader; renovating our garden spaces into beautiful new places for residents to gather; hosting arts and entertainment events that let residents share their talents; and planning an exciting 40th Anniversary Autumn Gala to celebrate our milestone with current residents and families.
Q: How Will You Ensure Cherished Traditions and Resident Involvement Remain Strong?
A: As we introduce new initiatives, my priority is keeping residents actively engaged in shaping Walker Place's future. Whether it's weighing in on Walker Talks topics or how best to use renovated spaces, we continually involve residents so that they have a voice. We aim to bring exciting new offerings that appeal to current and prospective residents while honoring the cherished Walker Place traditions of community, diversity, and Midwestern hospitality. After all, it's their home, and we wouldn't be here if it weren't for them!
Q: What Are You Most Excited About for the Future of Walker Place?
A: I'm excited about these dynamic new offerings and renovated amenities to further elevate life at Walker Place. Most of all, I look forward to fostering an environment where residents enjoy robust social connections, new experiences, and engaging programs and initiatives that fulfill their individual purposes. We have an exciting road ahead!
