On this day, Walker Methodist celebrates the birth of a true visionary, Harriet Walker, whose remarkable journey continues to inspire.
Born in 1841, Harriet’s formative years were lived during tremendous challenges to women’s rights. In the 1840s women were not allowed to vote in the United State, married women often had limited legal rights to own property, and access to higher education was extremely rare. In the 1860s, activists like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton fought and laid the foundation for suffrage successes.
It was during this that Harriet founded Bethany Home in Minneapolis, which would one day become Walker Methodist. Harriet’s bold decision laid the foundation for all that we are and do today. Through her unwavering dedication, she created something that has positively touched countless lives.
Today, Walker Methodist is on the verge of tremendous growth as we prepare to merger with Knute Nelson. Though we may find a new name for our merged company, Harriet’s legacy will remain. Her pioneering spirit reminds us to embrace challenges, uplift others, create a legacy that will carry us into the future.
